BLACK OXIDE: This is a black finish commonly used by firearm companies. IMF
applies this finish to parts for decorative needs such as furniture brackets, screws
and to parts that tolerances cannot be hindered such as precision-machined parts
in the tooling industry.

ZINC ELECTROPLATING: This is a thin layer of zinc applied through positive
and negative charges and is measured in tenths of a thousandth and can be applied
as thick as specifications require. Then it is sealed with chromates, which give the
parts either a clear - bluish color, or yellow finish, which either is specified. This
process is used for a wide range of products. A bolt or screw from the local hardware
store is a good example.

Black Oxide

ZINC PHOSPHATE: This is a gray or black coating that is a mechanical
lubricant. Military and automotive specifications apply and are used on bolts, nuts
and misc fasteners. This finish permits assembly of such parts with less torque.
Also this is a good base coat for parts needing to be painted.
